PRITCHETT AND LUCY TAKE OVERALL IN CAMP PARTLOW DUATHLON

Robert Pritchett had to borrow a bicycle from Cycle Path in order to complete the cycling portion of the Camp Partlow Trail and Road Duathlon. Jason Lake, an employee at Cycle Path and second overall to Pritchett, may not have been so accomodating had he known what awaited him on Saturday. Pritchett finished the challenging 2-mile trail run, 17- mile road bike ride, and a second 2-mile trail run to win his first Duathlon in 1:14.29. Lake followed with a time of 1:19.18. Jason Raper was third overall with a time of 1:22.51. Robert Pritchett, a 27 year old University of Alabama student from South Africa, is known for his running prowess while second place Lake considers himself a cyclist and not a runner. The winning time fell short of the course record held by Peter Coleman at 1:11.47. Coleman did not participate this year. The Overall Female winner was young 17 year old Anna Lucy. Anna finished in a time of 1:41.08. She was less than a minute ahead of second overall Leigh Ann Hillman who finished in a time of 1:41.54. Finishing out the overall females at third place was Karen Malone in a time of 1:43.09. The first place Male Team was the father /son duo of Paul and Ben Weaver in a time of 1:15.13. Rob Hope, who usually teams with his wife Christina in the Coed Team division, changed partners since Christina had given birth to their second child a few short days ago. He was able to defend his title and for a third year won the Coed Division with new partner Pat Latner. The race is the only local duathlon of the year. It takes participants through a difficult 2-mile course on the grounds of Camp Partlow, a 510-acre camp for the people who live at Partlow Developmental Center. The racers then transitions to the bike and complete a 17-mile ride on Mount Olive Road to Lake Lurleen. Out of Lake Lurleen the participants climb almost 200 feet before connecting with Upper Columbus Road and then to another climb on Sam Sutton Road. The final stretch is a second 2-mile trail run doing the previous route in reverse. Regina Poole, Director of Community Relations, thanked the more than 60 racers who participated. Monies raised through this venture will support Camp Partlow renovations. Sponsors of the event include Cycle Path, Michael Moore and Security Storage, Eric and Julie Wilson, the Patricia and Richard Foundation, Elk Corporation,Riverside Podiatry, and Mercedes.
