COLEMAN WINS THIRD IN A ROW CAMP PARTLOW DUATHLON
Thirty-nine year old Peter Coleman is getting older and he's getting better. For the third year in a row and the fourth time in five years Peter Coleman, of the famous "Demopolis Mafia," takes first place in a small but enthusiastic field of participants at the Camp Partlow Trail and Road Duathlon held at Camp Partlow in Coker on March 20th.
Peter Coleman, once know only as one of the area's premier local runners, is now showing his prowess with a bicycle. The 7th Annual Camp Partlow Trail and Road Duathlon, a joint venture of the Druid City Bicycle Club and the Tuscaloosa Track Club, combines both running and cycling. A difficult 2-mile trail is followed by a 17-mile bike ride through the hills of the Mount Olive-Lake Lurleen area. After the bicycle ride the racers again run the 2-mile trail to complete the course. Coleman has improved his finishing time each of the last three years, setting a course record each time. His overall time 1:11:47 bettering last year's time by 20 seconds. Last year Coleman completed the ride course in 46:45. He clearly made up time this year by completing the ride in 46:11. Dave Casebeer did provide Coleman a challenge as his team of Nelson /Casebeer were the first to leave in the bicycle. The Guy Nelson / Dave Casebeer team finished close behind Coleman in a time of 1:11:53 for the first place Male team finish.
Wanda Kennedy was the first Overall Female in a time of 1:35:01. The husband-wife team of Rob and Christina Hope were first in the Co-Ed divison with a time of 1:17:08.
Monies raised from this event go back into the improvements for the camp, which serves people who live at the William D. Partlow Developmental Center. Sponsors for the event were CyclePath, The Richard and Patricia Snow Foundation, Elk Corporation of Alabama, Julie and Eric Wilson, Michael Moore and Security Storage, Mercedes-Benz US International, and Harrison and Paulette Packard.
