    Alec Wheeler Memorial Service

    To DCBC and WAMBA Friends-

A Memorial Service for Alec Wheeler will be held at Lake Lurleen on Sunday, January 22, at 11:00 am. The service will be at the South Trailhead just past Pavilion #1. Such a fitting place to remember Alec.

After the service we will convene at Pavilion #1 for lunch and visitation with the family.

Road & Mountain Bike Rides (Jan. 17-21, 2012)

The DCBC first century ride of the year, the Century Tuscaloosa, is this Saturday starting from Capitol Park at 8 am. We will have a police escort from Capitol park to the entrance of the North River Yacht Club. In addition to the full century there are several shorter options. I have identified two shorter routes (~52 and 75 miles) and those who are familiar with the roads can develop their own routes. Everyone doing the century or 75-mile rides needs to be aware that the stores in Coker and Buhl are currently closed. Therefore you need to be prepared with adequate fluids and snacks between the store on US 43 (before turning on Bone Camp) and either the store in Ralph or in Fosters.

Weather: Forecast is rain late Friday and into early Saturday morning with clearing after sunrise. Temperatures for Saturday are forecast to be in the 60’s. If necessary due to rain and unsafe riding conditions, I will cancel (postpone) the ride that morning and advise everyone via email (at 7 am). If you would like call me to check on the status of the ride, my number is 205-887-2304. If conditions look a little iffy, I would appreciate any recommendations on continuing or canceling the ride.

The ride map is on the DCBC website under Rides as are the cue sheets for shorter routes.

    Hope to see you Saturday,
    Stephen Secor
